Charity Sisco has been a pastor’s wife for 10+years. She has been married for 14 years and has 3 boys 12, 11, & 9. She and her husband, Rob Sisco planted & have been serving at Cactus Pointe Baptist Church in Laveen, Arizona for almost 7 years.

QUESTIONS FOR MRS. CHARITY

How did you become a working mom?

I became a working mom when my oldest was around 4. We lived in Coalinga, California and were serving at our first church plant which was extremely small. We had very little outside income, & so I took on a part-time job at Kmart as a sale associate. For most of the existence of Cactus Pointe, either I or my husband have had to work an outside job. It was extremely difficult for my husband to work as well as the pastor, I work as a server in the late afternoons to evenings so that I can still keep up with my duties at home.

Was that your plan before having kids?

I was always praying I would marry someone in full-time ministry, but planned on teaching until the Lord redirected my path. I taught high school after graduating college, through my single life, & until I found out we were expecting our second child.

What are your biggest tips for balancing home life with working?

Balancing being a wife, mother, homeschooling, homemaking, & my outside job can be very challenging, and can like an impossible task most of the time. One of the biggest issues for any mother in the same position in which I am is keeping your priorities in check. There is only a limited amount of time in each day, and I have learned through a lot of frustration and tears (not just mine) that the items that fall lower on the list of priorities need to be extremely flexible. When you can abide by this rule, you will find it easier to let those items go that didn’t or don’t get done each day. I have had to learn this, or I will stay up late, not have a restful sleep, & get up early because I feel like I haven’t lived up to the expectations I have for myself

Did you know you were called to be a Pastor’s wife before you were married?

Yes

What is your definition of biblical homemaking?

Biblical homemaking is defined in the Bible as being “chaste, keepers at home….” Each home operates differently according to the husband and wife and their personalities, jobs, schedules, etc. In society today, “homemaking” is frowned upon as a weak, stereotypical position, and feminists have created this idea that it’s not a real job. The wife’s job, according to Genesis, is to be a “helpmeet” to her husband. Every husband is designed differently, so the wife God has designed for him, will meet his needs in his own particular way. I say that in order to explain the Biblical definition for ‘homemaking” is for each wife to be the help to meet her own husband’s wishes, desires, schedules, etc…

Do you feel that homemaking is something you are called to do?

My job as a wife is to meet my husband’s desires in everything involving my home. That is true homemaking, and that is my calling.

In your opinion what is the role a mother should play in her children’s lives?

A mother should be the nurturer and example to her children. Girls should be able to see the Biblical example of what a wife and mother should be according to the Bible, and desire to follow the Biblical example. Boys should also see the Biblical example of what a wife and mother should be, and desire to marry someone to meet his needs and desires. I believe it’s important for mothers to realize that while you have your own children, they will grow up with different personalities and desires, and while you pray for them to follow God’s will for each of their lives, God’s will for each of them will be unique. God’s will is definitely more important than your dream for their lives.

In your opinion what is the woman’s role?

If I were single, my role would be completely different than it is now. When I was a single teacher, I had different desires, goals, and expectations which allowed me to perform different tasks that a married woman and/or a mother would not be able to accomplish. When I got married, my desires changed, which led to a group of different responsibilities, which required me to be willing to leave some former tasks behind. I have counseled many single young ladies who want a career path.

What is your favorite encouraging scripture? Why that one?

Psalm 37:4-5 :

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

It reminds me that if my will and desires are parallel with God’s will and desires for my life, then my desires will always be satisfied.
